Last weekend I had a chance to visit the San Diego Botanical Gardens. Nowadays, whenever I’m anywhere that has a botanical garden I make a point to visit. It’s so incredibly inspiring to see all kinds of cool plants I’ve never seen before and glean inspiration for, not only my pattern design work and color pairings, but also garden ideas and layouts as we get ready to redo our outdoor area at some point this year. I was with my mother-in-law and we just weaved around the garden, chatting and stopping to take pics along the way. It’s very soul cleansing for me — after a visit to a garden I feel almost the same way I feel after aΒ visit to the spa.

My only disappointment with the garden is that they had no greenhouses. I love wondering through weirs cactariums and tropical greenhouses–there is something so magical about them, right? But they did have (what looked like) a super fun play area for kids with a tree-house play-structure and edible garden. Cute stuff. Below, I’m imagining some of my photographs as large wall murals.

Beautiful imagery! What do you use to take your pictures?

Beautiful. I understand they have life size succulent Topiaries and an area that portrays a coral reef / undersea garden with plants that appear very nautical like starfish looking aloes, coral looking euphoria and kelp looking alluadia .

So amazing and inspirational! I so appreciate your talent.

Go to Balboa Park! They have a giant plant “house”, although not a greenhouse. It’s a screened building from the 1900’s that houses all their orchids and tropical plants.
