Desks aren’t always the best places to get creative. I often find myself sprawled out on the floor while reading, drawing, or researching on my tablet. That’s how I do “me time.” There’s something about having a dedicated zone for creativity that feels very inspiring. So for today’s post we’ve worked with Target Style to create Creative Comfort Zone— which is basically like a small lounge/chill out area where you are invited to be your most creative self.
To create the look, we started with a small corner, behind a bookshelf. This idea works perfectly for small spaces–you don’t need to dedicate an entire room for the Creative Comfort Zone. Maybe you’ve got a little niche under a stairway? or an extra area of your den? A small space like that is perfect. We covered the back of the bookshelf with a vintage Romanian Kilim, and used fluffy rugs, poufs and pillows on the floor to create a first layer of cozy. Then we added cork board as a wall covering, so that the space is fluid: inspirations, projects and ideas go up and the wall and come down readily. A little vintage file cabinet can house projects and papers and on top of it, a little bit of bling — the perfect gold task lamp to brighten up our situation.
Instead of a of a desk, a low side table acts as a hard surface for painting, doodles and jotting down daydreams.
All of my pens, paintbrushes and art supplies stay organized (and chic!) in this little copper curio-cabinet inspired caddy.
I’m using this basket, as a plant-stand to create some height. This is a great trick to help create privacy and section off the space if your Creative Comfort Zone is in the corner of a room. Also, plants help the flow of creativity!! How do you do “me time”?
Get the look: Desk Caddy , Gold Task Lamp, Basket , Bud Vase, Vanity Tray (used as mini-shelf), Pillows (similar), faux sheepskin, Side Table, Cork Board, File Cabinet (similar with a bit of paint ;)

I love this idea of creating a comfort zone. I definitely work best when I’m in a relaxing environment that isn’t so structured. Lovely photos!

I love all the things in this room, but the orange on the walls with a the gold on the pillows and other items is making me want to twitch. change up the wall color and I think your much better off.

Ha! Thanks for the feedback Jess. The wall isn’t actually orange, it’s natural cork board — so that one could use the space as an inspiration wall — but yes, painting it could look great too!!

I just love your use of green. It’s such a cool color. I cannot get creative at a desk. I get antsy and end up filling it with junk anyways. This is SUCH a good idea for those of us who can’t do the desk life. Lately I’ve been taking refuge in the bedroom while hiding from my 3 year old while hubby tries to distract him.

You inspired me. I remember when I was 16 had a place, next to my bed, in my room where I could spend all day long. Thinking to create a comfort zone for myself in the attic. That’s the only place left.
