Wauw Justina, it looks so great. I have been following the process so it is really cool to see the final result. I love the color combinations emerald green and the copper/rose elements, it fits beautifully together. I am totally inspired to redo my kitchen as well (it is rented, so probably just painting and adding accessories, but still :)). Enjoy your beautiful kitchen

In the SF Chronicle is mentioned “The Justina Blakeney cheat sheet” but I can’t find it. Apparently it is purported to list sources for artisan-made bohemian-style goods.

Simply lovely. I need a source on the shoes. :)

  27. Leanne says:

Just love your kitchen – turned out so lovely and colorful. I’m wondering how you found the Moroccan cement tiles to work with, though. I used some Moroccan cement tiles in a bathroom and on a fireplace surround, and my contractors found them hard to work with and really difficult to seal – did your contractor have much difficulty with them?

    • Justina Blakeney says:

Hi Leanne, the man who installed our tiles works with them often and didn’t have any problems. We are noticing that they are quick to stain though so are experimenting on how to clean and protect them–I’ll let you know if I learn anything useful!

  29. Shavonda says:

Hi Justina! Im just getting back from Mexico and playing catch up on all that I missed last week…. and BOY is your kitchen a treat! Its just so freakin good. I do have a couple specific questions. We are about to start the next phase of our kitchen reno on Friday ( EEEP!) and I wanted to get an idea on perspective using your space. Would you mind sharing what your ceiling height is? Also how high up did you go with your backsplash tile before you placed your first floating shelf? This is the one detail that’s giving me the most headache with our remodel. Our ceiling height is only juuuust under 8ft in our kitchen, and we have about 59″ from our countertop to the ceiling, so we dont have soaring ceilings and tons of wall to work with. Our current upper cabinets(original to the house) are coming out so we can install floating shelves. We currently only have 16″ between the countertop and the bottom of the cabinets, and there are 6 shelves in the cabinets that go pretty much to the ceiling. Im planning to raise the first shelf up to between 18-20″ from the countertop, and only have 2 floating shelves spaced about 12″ between them. This will give us more under cabinet space/backsplash space, and keep the shelves and our dishware within a comfortable arms reach without me having to climb up on a stool to reach things. I say all this to say I love the way you’ve used your wall space here. It seems you gave yourself plenty of room for backsplash and kept your shelves at the perfect height and depth for functional storage.

  30. KathleenC says:

Wonderful! I am having severe kitchen envy!!! (soon my patient kitchen, soooooon)
I love the use of pattern, and your use of color is especially inspiring.

  31. Tania says:

Beautiful! I love the backsplash and the farmhouse sink the best! I’m planning to put one in my kitchen but I didn’t realize that Lowe’s had one that cheap, I was planning on IKEA but maybe somewhere local will work after all!

  32. […] you got a chance to drool over Justina Blakeney’s jungalicous kitchen yet? If not you totally should, like seriously pause and drool over all the luscious greens […]

I so needed this today!! I’m moving from a very beautiful very expensive light filled loft rental to a much more conservative smaller apartment with the plan of saving for a home purchase. I was feeling really down about the move when I saw the picture on Pinterest of your gorgeous kitchen and remembered why I’m doing this with the hopes that one day I’ll be able to redesign my own space. Such a glorious inspiration :) Thank you for having and sharing the beautiful!!

  34. tk says:

  55. Katey says:

did you put a glaze over your tiles to achieve that look or were the tiles already coated in gloss? I’m also interested to know how you attached them, I like how there aren’t definitive white lines throughout!

    • Justina Blakeney says:

The tiles came like this. We didn’t coat them with anything. They’re just naturally really shiny. There are no white lines because we matched the grout color to the tiles — had we used white grout there would be those white lines all around.

  56. Max says:

Have to say the kitchen is absolutely fantastic, them tiles are incredible however they are gone from the website. Can you remember what they are called. I want something very similar but may find them hard to come across in uk.

    • Justina Blakeney says:

      Hey Max!
The tiles are called “Moroccan Mosaic Tiles” I know Badia still has them in stock, but if you’re in the UK I’d recommend inquiring at Moroccan import stores.
      Good luck!!

  59. Kathryn says:

I called Badia design hoping they had the “teal green mosaic tiles” on their website in the rectangular shape you used.
They said you had ordered the Green Bejmat tile from their website, however in the pictures the color and finish looks very different.

I’m concerned to order a large box and have them be the wrong color.
Do you remember which kind you used? the mosaic or Bejmat, and if you used mosaic, did you cut the 4×4 tile to get the rectangle shape?

Any information you have would be a blessing!
    Thank you so much!

    • Justina Blakeney says:

Hey! Maybe have them send you a sample?? I went in-store to pick out the tile–but they are very knowledgeable and I’m sure they know which tile I used. We didn’t cut the tile. The rectangular shape was in stock. Wish I could be of more help — good luck!!

  60. shelley says:

Hi Justina – the staining that you noticed with your tile, was it just the floor tiles or the backsplash as well? I’m installing a b&w moroccan tile to the front of a commercial bar I’m working on and would love to know which tile (or both?) you’re experiencing the staining with. Also – I saw you said you matched your green tile with a corresponding grout. Did you have that grout custom tinted or were you able to find something “close enough” on the market? Thanks much – fabulous design!

    • Justina Blakeney says:

Hi Shelly! The staining was on the cement tile (on the floor). We added a tile sealer and it helped. As for the grout color, we found something ‘close enough’. Hope that helps!

    • Hi! Yes our tiles were pretty distressed as well. We used a dark grey grout that helped to mask imperfections but ultimately the once the tile was up I realized that distressed look of it is part of what makes it beautiful. Don’t be nervous! When it goes up it’ll be amazing (I was nervous too!!)
