I wanted to think of creative ways to use these eggs once they are dyed and dried other than putting them in a basket on your kitchen table. So, my first idea? Use you can crack them in half and use them as a cute mini flower vase.
Or similarly as salt n’ pepper holders. You can use your fingers to get the spices out or use a cute salt spoon- that’s what they’re for!
I thought a garland could be quite cute strung up on the back of a chair (like my Valentine’s day chair) or on the wall or mantle. After cracking the eggs I actually cut them around with scissors to give them a straighter more even edge. Then, get a thin needle and thread to poke through the end of each half shell and string them up!
I know Justina is a fan of a mosaic (and tiling in general), so I used the leftover eggs shells to create a handmade Easter card…and then put a cheesy pun on it! Ha ;)
Don’t know how to dye easter eggs? Here’s how I did it:
What you need
- White eggs
- Boiling Water
- Food colouring
- Plastic cups
What you do
- Hard boil eggs (I actually didn’t for this project as it was easier to crack them in order to get the shape I wanted with them)
- Fill each cup with 1/2 cup boiling water
- Add 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- Add 10 drops of food coloring (in every and all combination)
- Lower egg into dye bath for 3-5 minutes depending on how deep you want to go with color
- Remove colored egg and let dry in egg carton
