Like She Said #5: Sarah Yates

Sarah is one of those people that you meet and wonder, ‘What is she hiding? How could she possibly be this fun, caring, down-to-earth, beautiful, talented and super smart??’ But then you get to know her a little bit better and you realize that she’s not hiding anything at all and she  just *is* all of those things–and then you just want to hang out with her as much as possible, pick her brain, have her take pictures of you and chill at her ridiculously rad house in Palm Springs. Ya. Today she is sharing this quote, that, as a design blogger resonates with me so much because I talk (and think) about ‘Things’ A LOT. It’s a great reminder to stop and think about the BIG picture.
(Here is the free, downloadable desktop-wallpaper version in a few colors for your downloading pleasure):
Here’s what Sarah has to say:
There was a time when I traded in everything so that I could work harder.  My ambitious nature, mixed with my love of beautiful things and expensive experiences (clothing, home decor, travel) led me to push myself in my career to earn as much as possible, achieve as much success as possible.  I was pretty unhappy and it ultimately led to health problems that forced me to reevaluate.  I quickly realized that my happiness is found in spending time with the people I love, carving out time to do the things I enjoy and choosing work that satisfies my soul (often at the expense of my wallet).  I’m always working on keeping in balance, but reminding myself that I value a happy life over pretty things/career success helps keep me on track.

I really love this quote (hello, new wallpaper) because it totally summarizes what I have been trying to do lately. I guess as meditation. I just picture what I want my life to look like, what I’m working towards. I used to be so caught up in the things we did not have, and it didn’t really enable me to accomplish much.

It’s funny, how the life I want is so simple, so achievable.
