4/19/12A new magical window seat project

Window Seat with yellow Curtains | Window Seat with stripes  | Window seat with green chair by Kathryn Ireland | Window seat with Ocean View

There is something magical about a window seat…and ever since I moved to the 2nd street house last year, I’ve wanted to build one in this window:
Well, the time has finally come! Now that we are building the nursery for our l’il boomba in the room that used to be my walk-in-closet (AKA my Lady Cove)–I need a space to put my clothes.  I have one floating rack that fits nicely in the bedroom, but I need another dresser for pants and such.

Right now in this area, I have my work space–on most days, it looks like this:

So I’ve designed a window seat that will allow for clothing storage, a hamper, a small but functional desk–and yes! A window seat! When all is said and done–it should look something like this:

I’m having a local carpenter build it for me–and I went to find fabric for the cushions at Micheal Levine in DTLA– (the fun part)–I didn’t settle on anything quite yet–but I have a couple weeks to make my decision.

Which is your favorite?

When I do projects like this–it really makes me want to have my own line of furniture. It’s exhilarating! Can’t wait to see the final outcome and share it with you all. Stay tuned!!

The second and first windows could not have been made by humans. They had to have been made by nature…way to beautiful. The one looking over the sea is like the best possible dream I could ever have. It almost gives me an adrenaline rush. I need a vacay…btw

  10. Hi Justina,

I was just in Michael Levine last week/weekend and looked at some of those exact fabrics (and took pictures). It was my firts time there and it was fabulous. I loved the blue and green peacock-eye-like velvet pattern, it’s so fun! I just started following your blog a few weeks ago, and I can’t wait to see which one you choose!

    Best of luck!

  11. my favourite is the first velvety one…peacock motif in lime green :)

i cannot believe you aren’t going fabric shopping in your lady cove – so many beautiful ones to choose from in there!!
although i have to say you’ve picked some pretty fantastic new ones. i’m really loving the second to last velvety goodness.
oh, and you should and could be a furniture designer girl! x

    • Awww thanks Kelly– I need seven yards though…so unless we use the fabric from the runner at the wedding, or do a patchwork situation–I don’t have enough fabric :( I’ll let you know when pics come in! Thanks for the love!! xxxx

  13. i love the third fabric picture from the top. peacock motif. i can’t find it online, do you know the name of it?

I have pillows made with the last fabric shown, and I love them! I change my decor a lot, and they end up fitting with almost anything.
